Visit to Tiger Hill
Start early morning and you will find glory – First rays of sun hitting the twin peaks of Kanchenjunga coupled with the panaromic views of the Everest – its breathtaking! Tiger Hill is situated at just 13 kms away from Darjeeling and at an altitude of 2590 meters – summit of Ghoom will offer you a magnificent views early morning. Interestingly it is also the highest railway station in Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. And if you are lucky – on a clear day you can spot the town of Kurseong and also the rivers Teesta, Mechi and Mahananda!
Darjeeling Himalayan Train
If you are in Darjeeling and even staying there for a short time – your visit to Darjeeling is just so incomplete without the joyride of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. A unique experience that one should not miss.
Also known as the toy train – this one moves slowly and offers a 2 hour journey to Ghoom and back totalling a distance of 14 kms. This ride offerss you some unparalleled views of Darjeeling town and the snow clad Himalayan peaks of Kanchenjunga. This is another wonder to witness in Darjeeling – The Batasia Loop! Basically created to minimize the elevation of the Darjeeling Himalayan railway, the Batasia Loop – the track wraps around itself through a tunnel and a hilltop. This is situation just 5 Kms away from Darjeeling below Ghoom. Worry not, once you are on the Himalayan Train you are going to witness this amazing ride. Another attraction is the Eco Garden in Batasia which features many rare and unheard species like Rhododendrons, Silver firs and Gingko Biloba. It also carries with pride a war memorial which honors the sacrifice of Gorkha soldiers in of Darjeeling.
Rock Garden / Barbotey Garden
The rock garden or the Barbotey garden is one thing you should not miss in Darjeeling. Located around 10 kms away from Darjeeling it boasts of flower beds and also a waterfall flowing right through it which is a great sight to the eyes during the monsoons. The benches in this rock garden are made by cutting rocks at different levels.
The Shrubbery as it was known when it was a private courtyard – The Nightingale Park is open to public since 2011 – also offers a great view and has a giant statue of Shiva and a musical fountain apart from the beautiful scenery.
