Nubra Valley


Situated in the north of Leh is the beautiful Nubra Valley – known as Ldumra. The valley is situated at an altitude of 10,000 ft above sea level. Nubra in reality is a cold desert with scant vegitation and beautiful landscapes that are breath taking. Nubra Valley is about 150 kms from Leh and the minimum duration required to visit Nubra valley from Leh is atleast 2 days. Nubra valley is just located at a point where Shyok river meets the Siachen River and forms a large valley as if its a separator for the Ladakh and Karakoram ranges. At the north of the valley lias the famous Siachen glacier and at the northwest are the well known sasser pass and karakoram pass that connect Nubra valley with Xinjiang.

Getting to Nubra one has to take the famous Khardongla pass which is the well reknowned as the Highest Motorable road in the world. Situated at an altitude of 18,380 feet above the sea level and around 50 kilometers from Leh – is actually a kind of a souvenir for the travellers to reach there and travel. Khardongla acts as a gateway for Nubra and Shyok valleys. For those who don’t know – Shyok river literally means “river of death” and flows through northern ladakh to Ghangche in Baltistan – roughly about 550 kms!
